It's not just cars and beer - companies team up to share some German ingenuity

When it comes to cars and malt beer, Germany has some of the best to offer. So when German jeweller Wellendorff and watchmaker A. Lange & S?hne came to town, they were keen to promote some of the nation's other products.

A luncheon the companies co-hosted at the Grand Hyatt's Pool House on Friday featured everything German - from the brands on display to the menu of regional cuisine and Teutonic wines. The two brands also flew in a goldsmith and a watch specialist, and roped in expert wine critics.

German consul general for Hong Kong Wener Hans Lauk gave a speech to promote his homeland's many virtues. 'It's not just machinery [that we excel in]. Many of the smaller German brands actually have the advantage in technology innovation, balancing both functionality and design aesthetics,' he said.

The collaboration came about because the two brands value similar aesthetics and a respect for craftsmanship, Benjamin Lange, general manager for Wellendorff in Asia, said.

'The two families go way back,' he said. 'We hope this event can show that it's true, our cars are pretty amazing, but we do more.'
