HK$300,000 on offer in hunt for murderer
Police are offering a HK$300,000 reward in a hunt for a mainlander accused of killing his former girlfriend and her boyfriend in front of her eight-year-old son and elderly mother in Hong Kong six years ago.
A new reward notice posted on the police website says Zhou Xipeng, 48, is wanted in connection with the double homicide. He came to Hong Kong one day before the grisly killings on March 13, 2006.
It is one of 13 rewards totalling HK$4.7 million that the police are offering for help to look for suspects in 13 murder cases.
The double murder took place in Shiu Hing Building on Yee Kuk Street, Sham Shui Po, where Zhou was waiting for his former girlfriend Wu Pui, 33, to return home.
He forced Wu's son and 65-year-old mother into their flat at knifepoint when the boy came from school at 3.30pm, and tied them up.
The fatal attack occurred five hours later when Wu returned with her boyfriend, Koon Man-kin, 36. The pair later died in hospital.
'The causes of death were multiple stab wounds to their bodies,' the reward notice said.
Wu and Zhou, both mainland-born, met in Guizhou province and became lovers. She later married a Hongkonger and moved to the city in 2004, but divorced and got involved with Koon - all the while allegedly continuing her relationship with Zhou, police said. Investigations indicated the love affair was the motive for the attack.
An officer said the suspect appeared to have fled Hong Kong and returned to the mainland. Police have sought help from mainland authorities to trace him.
'A list of locations, including the address of [the suspect's] Guizhou home, has been provided to mainland public security officers,' he said. So far, no one has been arrested.
The officer hoped the reward could bring in more information. According to the police notice, the bounty is effective until August 16.
The oldest outstanding case with a reward offer is the 24-year-old murder of labourer Tse Chi-yan, 64, who was found dead in a septic tank at St Stephen's College Preparatory School in Stanley on May 11, 1988.
The highest reward offered by the police is HK$800,000, for information leading to the arrest of four Wo Shing Wo triad members over the death of Lee Tai-lung, chief of the Tsim Sha Tsui faction of the Sun Yee On triad. Lee, 41, was hit by a car outside the Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel and hacked to death in August 2009. Three men not covered by the reward offer were jailed for life in February last year.
