5,000 eye mainland

Project 211
Joyee Chan

About 5,000 Hong Kong students have applied to top mainland universities, including Tsinghua and Fudan, since February 20. Applications end today.

From this year on, Hong Kong students who wish to study across the border will no longer need to take the Joint Entrance Examination for Universities. Sixty-three mainland institutions will consider applications based on the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education examination and Hong Kong A-level Examination.

A China Education Centre spokesman says candidates tend to choose top-notch universities on the mainland. Subjects range from architecture and education to engineering and science.

Interviews will be held between May 5 and 10 at Shenzhen University or schools near Lo Wu. Applicants may receive conditional offers before May 15.
