Bilingual PhD meets all needs

Doctorate in Business Administration HKMA and BSU

The PhD in business administration, offered by the Bulacan State University (BSU) in the Philippines and the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA), gives Hong Kong executives and professionals a chance to study business in Chinese.

'Being a bilingual programme, students may write their dissertation in Chinese or English. Those who write in Chinese are required to translate their work into English,' says programme director Dr Tony Wo.

Students need to produce a thesis that is 20,000 to 25,000 words, and are required to face the thesis defence panel. If students want to present in Chinese, they can employ an interpreter, at their own cost.

The programme is designed to meet the development needs of business leaders, experienced managers and professionals who wish to pursue advanced studies and research in an area related to business administration.

'Through investigation, review or criticism, students are expected to make a contribution to business administration [expertise]. At the PHD level, students must [be] independent,' says Wo.

Students on the course are typically top management from various businesses and professions, such as lawyers and accountants. 'There are also people who want to leave their current profession and join the education field,' says Wo.

The programme is delivered in face-to-face lectures at various HKMA teaching venues around Hong Kong. Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree and a postgraduate degree in any discipline.

The standard duration for the degree is three years.
