The true wealth of Lantau Island to Hongkongers comes in the form of green peaks, clean beaches, rural settings, sandflats filled with clams, and thriving coastal waters. Tapping brownfield sites would offer similar economic development benefits but at much lower cost than reclamation.

Hong Kong consumes more than the rest of the world put together on average, yet it has the capacity and resources to be a global leader of change. The city must recognise that the degradation of the Earth will affect businesses, citizens and everyone’s quality of life.
