Jeremy Rappleye is a professor at the University of Hong Kong, having previously lead projects for the World Bank and UNESCO. His research focuses on the future of education, with recent talks to the G7 Education Ministers Meeting (2023), Japan’s Central Council for Education (2022), and Stanford’s Social Psychology Lab (2022).

Hong Kong’s emerging debate on AI in education lags behind other parts of Asia despite a rich recent history of world-class pedagogical research. If we view AI through technological solutionism, we ignore the importance of localisation and potentially face both regional relegation and redundancy.
