Speaking to media yesterday, Chinese vice-premier and top contender for a seat on the next Politburo Standing Committee Zhang Dejiang denied that Bo Xilai established a legitimate political model during his time as Party Secretary of Chongqing.
Zhang wasn't the only Communist Party leader making statements to press.
The New York Times reported that Jiang Zemin still retains significant influence within the Chinese Communist Party - enough, it seems, to have more say over who Hu will leave in power as he begins to hand things over this week than Hu himself.
"For these people coming in, there will be two generations of predecessors looking over their shoulders," is how one expert put it in this NPR report.
