Things went from bad to worse this week for Cheung, who stepped down from all his public posts on Friday. Police interviewed him as part of their investigation into the failure of his Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange, which had to hand back its trading licence last weekend. Four people have been arrested in connection with the investigation and three have appeared in court.

The "mad dog" of Hong Kong politics fell out with another political party, this time People Power, announcing his resignation from the radical grouping the same week he was handed a suspended jail term for unlawful assembly. Wong previously split from the League of Social Democrats to co-found People Power with colleague Albert Chan Wai-yip. Wong has denied that a "personal feud" was behind his decision to leave the party.

The Spanish golfer reignited his feud with Tiger Woods, making comments deemed offensive and described by Woods as "hurtful". Garcia was asked at a European Tour event if he would invite Woods for dinner and responded by saying he would have him round every night and serve fried chicken, a dish stereotypically associated with black Americans. Garcia later apologised.
