Letters | As Turkey stands up for Saudi Jamal Khashoggi, what about its own journalists?
Dr Fearon-Jones is concerned that justice will not be seen to be done regarding the death in Istanbul last month of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi (“Saudi Arabia must ensure that truth prevails in Khashoggi killing trial”, November 10). It is ironic that the Turkish government is leading the investigation into this monstrous act against a journalist.
Turkey has imprisoned and disenfranchised hundreds of journalists and other opponents of the government since the alleged attempted coup in 2016, with no international call for censure whatsoever (“Turkish court sends journalists to prison as Amnesty condemns ‘climate of fear’ under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan”, April 26).
The mainstream media is deathly quiet about this, while it obsesses over Donald Trump and CNN reporter Jim Acosta.
