5 things about DJ Peter Sabine
What I’m listening to: I tend to separate my home music from what I play at clubs. I’ve been enjoying Action Bronson’s smooth rhymes, quirky subjects and jazzy production recently. Outside, I like to see what works for the floor – the way a mix interacts with the lighting, atmosphere and how silly the crowd feels. I have been playing recently with talented DJs such as JayMe, Steve Mak, The Heman and Ping to my Pong.
What I’m watching: I grew up with Top Gun and Arnie movies, and love films with implausible explosions, ridiculous plotlines, male bonding and terrible dialogue. Otherwise, I generally try to catch DJ-themed videos online. Mindtunes, which follows a group of severely disabled music fans creating a track with brainwave technology, is fascinating and touching.
What artists I’m following: I used to take my inspiration from physical art, but there are now so many mesmerising works in web design, multimedia and games. Monument Valley, for example, combines great graphics and music with Escher-inspired landscapes and gameplay.
Where I’m surfing: Attack Magazine, Cuepoint, DJ Techtools and Thump to learn more about debates surrounding technology and the future of DJing. To me, technology is a tool to enhance but not dominate your sets.
