Gaucho’s spiced chick pea patties on executive lunch menu

Argentine steakhouse Gaucho in Hong Kong can make you feel good – or great

It all depends on whether you are watching your waistline

Good Eating

With cowhides on the walls and leather furniture, the décor befits an Argentinian steakhouse, but with chic touches such as mirrored panels and crystal chandeliers.

COST Two-course HK$260, three-course HK$290 executive lunch menus.

WHO TO BRING Colleagues, friends and business associates.

TURN-ONS We loved the Feel Good menu with an estimated 500 calories in all, and with steak as a main. There is also a Feel Great menu for those not watching the waistline. We went for both.

From the Feel Good, we tried the spiced chickpea patties with mint and cumin yoghurt for starters and rump steak (150g) with chunky ratatouille and rocket for mains. Both dishes were deliciously light - the rump steak is better done medium to well for the best texture.

For dessert, there was a choice of balsamic strawberries with yoghurt and crisp meringue, or mango mousse with coconut tuille. We went for the latter which was a refreshing ending. We didn’t feel like we missed out on a hearty meal with this menu, the flavours were there, and we felt full afterwards.

On the Feel Great menu, and being an Argentinian eatery, we had to try the cheese empanada with provolone, mozzarella, cheddar and oregano, which was not too rich or heavy.

The confit duck leg with spicy hoi sin and orange glaze for mains came with sweet potato hash browns. The duck was cooked perfectly with just enough spice and sweetness from the marinade. The key lime pie with whipped cream was a delicious ending.
