Why Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is an LGBTQ+ fashion icon – from streetwear hoodies to red carpet glitter

At 13 years old, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is the oldest biological child of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and one of six siblings raised by the now-divorced celebrity couple.

Since announcing that she prefers to be known as John, Shiloh has adopted a powerful voice for the LGBTQ+ community – and that extends to her fashion choices. Angelina Jolie revealed Shiloh’s masculine style in an interview back in 2010, saying, “She (Shiloh) likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers.”

As Shiloh has grown up in public, she has cultivated her own unique taste for fashion, crafting a recognisable, down-to-earth street style. Channelling a tomboy look, she usually sports a pair of long shorts and a T-shirt underneath a casual sweatshirt. Trainers are repeatedly seen in her outings, including the repeatedly-worn Converse Chuck Taylor high-tops.

Open and transparent about her identity, the young LGBTQ+ icon also has a penchant for earthy tone hoodies and brown vests, which are defining staples of her chic tomboy look.

For formal occasions such as the red carpet, Shiloh eschews feminine outfits like gowns and opts for suits – usually dark coloured. For her appearance at the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala, alongside her mum Angelina in January 2018, Shiloh was dressed in a classic two piece – and still wore a black sling from a snowboarding mishap which didn’t appear unsightly at all.

My personal favourite look comes from last October, when Shiloh attended the Rome premiere of her mother’s new film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, along with her sister Zahara. The teenager donned a subtly glittering striped jacket consistent with Jolie’s sequinned Versace gown – which was chosen to reflect her villain role in the Disney sequel – for a matching mother-daughter fashion moment.
