A 2017 legal drama is coming back to haunt the Kardashian family days after the first episode of The Kardashians premiered on Hulu.

Blac Chyna, former reality star and ex-fiancé of Kris Jenner’s son Rob Kardashian, is suing the entire Kardashian family for US$108 million for conspiring with NBCUniversal to have her reality show Rob & Chyna cancelled in 2016, according to ABC News.

But just who is Chyna and what’s the deal between her and the Kardashian-Jenners exactly?

Blac Chyna (real name Angela Renée White) had a difficult childhood. The former reality star was raised by a single mother in Washington DC and she worked at McDonald’s, Taco Bell and a pizza parlour after high school, her lawyer Lynne Ciani told the court.

Later, Chyna became a popular stripper at King of Diamonds, a famous Miami club. Her life took a dramatic turn in 2010 when Canadian rapper Drake name-dropped her in Miss Me and she was cast as Nicki Minaj’s stunt double in the music video for Kanye West’s song Monster.

The next year, she appeared in the music video for rapper Tyga’s song Rack City. The duo fell in love and had a son together, but split in 2014 when Tyga started dating Kylie Jenner.

Chyna started dating Kylie Jenner’s half-brother, Rob Kardashian, in 2016. The couple had a daughter named Dream together before splitting in 2017. According to Capital Xtra, before her relationship with Rob, she sparked dating rumours with rapper Future after she appeared in his steamy video song Rich Sex and had his name tattooed on her hand.

Apart from her whirlwind romances, Chyna is known for her online boutique 88fin, her make-up brand Lashed by Blac Chyna, her beauty bar in Los Angeles, her appearances in a number of reality television shows and her buttock augmentation and breast enhancement surgeries.

That’s not all. She is also making millions on subscription-based platform OnlyFans by regularly posting exclusive adult content, including photos and videos even catering to specific fetishes, for US$19.99 per month.

She made an Instagram announcement about her OnlyFans page in April 2020, posting a preview of one of her videos featuring a close-up of her foot stomping on a bowl of grapes. It amassed over 1.1 million views.

According to CelebrityNetWorth.com, Chyna has an estimated net worth of US$10 million.

Rob and Chyna’s roller coaster romance was explored in Rob & Chyna – a spin-off from the hit reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians – in 2016.

However, their relationship soon entered rocky terrain. In public mudslinging, Rob accused Chyna of cheating, while Chyna accused Rob of refusing to seek help for his mental health issues.

The reality show was axed midway through filming for the second season after her break-up with Rob in February 2017. In July 2017, Rob shared a flurry of nude photos and intimate details about Chyna on various social media platforms. Things got even messier when Chyna filed a case against Rob, which is set to go to trial in early May.

In October 2017, Chyna, 33, filed a massive defamation, intentional interference with contract and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage lawsuit against the Kardashian-Jenner clan, alleging that Rob’s family were behind it being taken off the air, according to Metro.

In court documents, she filed charges against Kim, Khloé, Kourtney, Kris and Kylie for defamation and Rob for assault, battery and harassment. According to Vice, in her lawsuit, Chyna claimed:

“Rob Kardashian is an abuser intent on destroying Angela White, the mother of his baby, who left him in 2016. In revenge, the Kardashian-Jenner family became media predators, slut-shaming her on social media and killing her television show, which had already begun filming a second season.”

“The Kardashians were flexing their muscles so as to destroy White’s career so that she was no longer able to compete against the Kardashian-Jenner women as an entrepreneur and social media influencer.”

“In killing the second season of Rob & Chyna, the Kardashians ensured that the E! network had room in its schedule for Kylie Jenner to star in her own show, in which she heavily promoted Kylie Cosmetics, which was once in direct competition with L by Blac Chyna.”

According to US Magazine, the Kardashians deny any wrongdoing. In October 2020, a judge rejected the famous family’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit. The decision was based on “substantial evidence” submitted by Chyna in the form of unaired footage, which was meant to be the second season of Rob & Chyna.

On April 18, Chyna’s trial against the Kardashians kicked off with the Kardashians appearing at the LA courtroom in person for the jury selection.

“Chyna went from being the star on E!’s No 1 hit show at US$92,500 per episode to being off the airwaves entirely. The defendants’ illegal conduct not only cost Chyna millions and millions of dollars, their conduct was emotionally devastating to her,” Ciani said in a statement ahead of the trial, as per The Independent.

But Michael Rhodes, the Kardashian family’s lawyer, told the jury on the second day of the trial that a friend who was FaceTiming with Rob saw Chyna hold a gun to Rob’s head. “The thing that got broken on December 14 was their relationship. The relationship was over. There is no Rob and Chyna show if there is no Rob and Chyna,” he told the jury.
