Poyd Treechada Petcharat, who is lovingly dubbed Thailand’s “most beautiful transgender woman” by many, recently married businessman Oak Phakwa Hongyok in a traditional Peranakan-style wedding in Phuket. (Peranakans are descendants of the first Chinese settlers in Southeast Asia, including Thailand.)

The intimate ceremony took place at Baan Ar-Jor, an 84-year-old Sino-colonial estate owned by the Hongyok family, on March 1.
The bride and groom reportedly wore costumes worth US$580,000, per Yahoo! News, with each delicate piece taking months to complete.

Petcharat looked like a glittering goddess in her traditional hand-embroidered Peranakan gown and handmade pure gold flower crown, while Hongyok’s western-style tuxedo was stylishly accessorised with two gold brooches at the left lapel.
But what else do we know about this Thai fashionista and her life, and why does her country love her so much?
