With the spooky season just around the corner, many of us have been scouring the internet to find some Halloween-ready inspo to get into the spirit of the holiday.

Chrissy Teigen’s Instagram is always a good place to start, as the American model – who hails from Thai, German and Norwegian descent – has always managed to serve incredible fancy dress outfits in time for October.

From channelling her inner beauty pageant darling to dressing up as Queen Elizabeth, Teigen’s bold approach to Halloween could even be considered almost as daring as Heidi Klum.

Earlier this month, the mum-of-four and her husband John Legend shared a snippet into their celebrations by posting photos and videos of the Halloween decor set-up at their house.

So which other Asian celebs have rocked the best Halloween looks over the years?

1. Blackpink’s Lisa as the Squid Game doll

Remember that Halloween when nearly everyone dressed as the red guards, in jumpsuits and masks, as seen in Netflix’s hit Korean TV show Squid Game?

Well, Blackpink’s Lisa, an avid fan of the production, opted for a different figure from the series. The K-pop rapper channelled the doll Young-hee from the Red Light, Green Light challenge instead, helping her stand out from the crowd – not that she needs any help with that, being one of the most followed Asian music stars on Instagram.

2. Gemma Chan as Pulp Fiction’s Mia Wallace

Gemma Chan looked to the iconic character of Mia Wallace (played by Uma Thurman) in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction film for her 2019 Halloween costume. She sported Wallace’s signature bob and unbuttoned white shirt as she posed with her Eternals co-star Richard Madden at Angelina Jolie’s Halloween bash that year, as per Variety.

3. Zhang Ziyi in some funky make-up

A few years ago, Chinese actress and model Zhang Ziyi celebrated the spooky season with this, erm, mop-like wig and some fun make-up to match. We love it even though we aren’t quite sure what she was supposed to be.

4. Elly Lam as Alice in Wonderland

Hong Kong’s Elly Lam, the daughter of tycoon Peter Lam and former Taiwanese actress-turned-painter Lynn Hsieh, has a knack for dressing up, and Halloween is no exception. In 2020, she channelled the character of Alice from Lewis Carroll’s bestselling children’s novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

5. Olivia Munn as Ali Wong

The X-Men: Apocalypse actress wore one of comedian Ali Wong’s signature stand-up outfits from her Netflix special Hard Knock Wife for Halloween.

6. Olivia Rodrigo as Elvira Hancock from Scarface

In 2021, the “Vampire” songstress was almost unrecognisable as she stepped out in a major throwback style moment from 1983’s Scarface, sporting a shining interpretation of Michelle Pfeiffer’s character’s silky blue dress and blonde bob from the film.

7. Shay Mitchell as a corpse bride

Pretty Little Liars’ Shay Mitchell, who also has Filipino roots, went scary for Halloween back in 2017, going for a head-to-toe zombie bride costume.

Way before Jenna Ortega took on her breakout role as the titular character in Netflix’s supernatural series Wednesday, Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor offered her take on Wednesday Addams for Halloween 2018, wearing her hair in two braids with black lipstick and a lacey long-sleeved top.
