The popularity of BLACKPINK is sky high.

Featured in the 2019 March issue of Billboard, BLACKPINK is the first K-pop girl group to grace the cover page of the magazine. In edition, the members’ upcoming concerts at the Coachella 2019 music festival in California will make them the first all-female Korean band to be invited for an onstage performance.

Today we celebrate Lisa’s 22nd birthday by looking at four reasons we love and admire the youngest member of BLACKPINK.

She is fiercely determined

Originally named Pranpriya Manoban, the star changed her name to Lalisa before settling on her stage name, Lisa. Longing to entertain, Lisa took part in an audition organised by YG Entertainment in Thailand in 2010, where she outshone the competition.

Winning first place, Lisa was the only candidate – and the first non-Korean artist – to be accepted as a trainee at YG Entertainment. She made her public debut as a member of BLACKPINK when the group launched in 2016.

She is multilingual

Lisa, who is the lead rapper and main dancer in BLACKPINK, speaks four different languages: Thai, Korean, English and Japanese. She demonstrated her fluency in Japanese in an interview that was the cover feature of the June 2018 edition of Nylon Japan magazine.

She is a budding influencer

After BLACKPINK’s official Instagram account was named the Top Girl Group Account in 2018, members of the band received a popularity boost on each of their personal accounts. All four promptly made their way into the Top 5 Rankings of Female Celebrities in Korea with the Most Followers on Instagram.

By the beginning of 2019, Lisa had overtaken the previous record holder – Taeyeon, from Girls’ Generation – to become the Most-Followed Female Celebrity in Korea on Instagram. Her account currently has a whopping 16.1 million followers.

She has effortless charm

Lisa has versatility and an innate sense of style. The star can also rock a wide range of hairstyles. From neon highlights to red hair with bangs, she wears her style confidently while delivering powerful performances on stage.

Best known for her iconic bleached-blonde hair, doll-like face, large eyes and naturally full lips, the delicate K-pop star was ranked the 9th Most Beautiful Face of 2018 by the professional film critic TC Candler on the Independent Critics List, out of 100 international women.
