Jin, a vocalist with seven-member K-pop group BTS, has bought a 1.9 billion won (US$1.7 million) residence at Hannam The Hill in the South Korean capital’s Hannam-dong neighbourhood, reports say.

In March, Jin – whose real name is Kim Seok-jin – bought the 88-square metre (947-square foot) suite for cash.

Real estate sources say the value of the property has increased since then.

“It seems like he bought the suite as an investment,” a source said. “The place would also be great for privacy.”

Jin and other BTS members are familiar with the neighbourhood after living in a 302 square metre suite at the building for the past year.

The founder of BTS’s agency Big Entertainment, Bang Si-hyuk, rented the suite for the stars.

Other celebrities, including actress Han Hyo-joo and singer Lee Seung-chul, also live in the building, which was completed in 2011.

BTS, who made their debut in 2013 with the album 2 COOL 4 SKOOL, made K-pop history by topping the Billboard 200 albums chart in the United States.
