Pilot escapes unscathed after autogiro crashes on road in China

A pilot emerged unscathed in southwest China after trying to land and crashing on a large highway, according to media reports.

The pilot’s autogiro attempted to come down by a toll station in Wengan county in Guizhou province on Monday and smashed into a parked car, the state broadcaster CCTV reported.

The rear part of the fuselage was torn open and the plane’s rotor blades broke off, but the car escaped major damage, with only dents made in its boot, according to the report.

The car was empty at the time of the crash.

The report did not say why the pilot was forced to land on the road.

The owners of the aircraft and car have reached an agreement on compensation, CCTV said.
