An overwhelming number of SCMP readers say they support an extra HK$1 charge to help pay for recycling glass in Hong Kong.

As Hong Kong’s environmental officials consider a scheme to charge an extra HK$1 for bottles of beer, wine and spirits to help pay the recycling costs, we've asked our readers to share their opinions through an online poll.

As of Wednesday morning, 82 per cent of poll participants, out of 576, say they are willing to pay the levy for every bottle of beer and wine.

Seven per cent say they are willing to pay only for wine bottles, but not beer.

Eleven per cent of our readers say they are against the scheme and won't pay for an extra charge.
