Firemen extinguished a blaze in the Tuen Mun typhoon shelter after four boats caught fire on Saturday morning.

There was still black smoke coming out of the 25 to 39 metre boats two hours after firemen arrived at the scene. A blast was also heard.

Firefighters used three water jets and three breathing apparatus teams to combat the blaze.

Four fireboats and three marine police vessels also rushed to the scene.

The fishing boats were about 300 metres away from the shore. It is unknown whether anyone was on the boats when the fire broke out. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
