Typhoon season may not be over yet as Krosa heads Hong Kong's way
Hong Kong’s typhoon season may not be over yet as a late tropical storm Krosa looks set to affect the city this weekend.
Krosa, now centred about 870 kilometres east-northeast of Manila, is forecast to head west and hit Luzon before going into the South China Sea, the Hong Kong Observatory said on Wednesday.
A forecast track by the observatory shows the storm being upgraded to a severe storm on Friday when it is expected to be 800 kilometres away from Hong Kong.
When a tropical storm enters the 800km range, the observatory raises the standby No 1 alert.

By Saturday, Krosa will be 400km from Hong Kong and officially become a typhoon, packing winds of 120km/h, according to the observatory forecast.
Hong Kong’s tropical cyclone season is normally only in the summer.
Observatory records show that the city had raised only three tropical cyclone warnings in November over the past 30 years. The latest was in 2006, and before that in 1993 and 2000.
