Thrill ride or damp squib? Hong Kong water slide fails to impress on second day
Customers complain of a slow ride and messy changing rooms
Low turnout, complaints of messy changing rooms and a rather slow slide have made the giant water park installed on the Central Harbourfront less than a roaring success so far.
After Slide the City suffered a delayed opening on the first day on Wednesday, it struggled to draw crowds on Thursday, leading to complaints from “very disappointed” game and food stall operators nearby.
“Business is not great at all. I wanted to try selling my snacks here so more people will know about them, but so far I’ve had about 20 customers,” Man Ying, founder of Mong Kok-based store Candy Shake said.
“It’s very bad, I am very disappointed.”
Cison Lee, who runs a health food business, said rent for the stall was high and there had not been enough customers.
The six-day event, which is making its second appearance in Hong Kong, also left some punters
feeling underwhelmed.
“We came last year and there were a lot more people and I think there were more stalls,” said Cici Ngai, who complained of feeling bored. Her friend said she had felt uncomfortable in the changing room as there was debris on the ground.
“Also, the slide is really slow,” she added.
A spokeswoman for Slide the City said improvements were constantly being made to the attraction.
“We get feedback from visitors, the media, the general public and deal with it seriously,” she said. “For example, we have inspected dressing rooms more frequently after we heard the feedback.”
She did not think the 10-metre slide was slow and felt that different visitors had different expectations on speed.
