Domestic helper who assaulted 92-year-old man in wheelchair jailed by Hong Kong court

  • Siti Anisah pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and another of common assault
  • West Kowloon Court acting principal magistrate Ada Yim said, given man’s age, he had no doubt depended heavily on her

A domestic helper who assaulted a 92-year-old man in a wheelchair under her care has been jailed for five months.

Siti Anisah, 39, also shoved Wong Pui’s head and scrubbed him roughly with a towel when she lost patience with the man, who suffered from dementia, at his Kwai Chung home on December 16 last year.

Jailing Siti, from Indonesia, West Kowloon Court acting principal magistrate Ada Yim said that, given the man’s age, he had no doubt depended heavily on her.

But instead of fulfilling the responsibility entrusted to her, the helper assaulted him.

“[You] left him in fear,” Yim said, adding that an immediate jail term was necessary.

She said the helper clearly had a difficult time looking after the man on her own yet decided to stay on for the money, which led to her getting frustrated.

Siti pleaded guilty on February 1 to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and another of common assault.

The court heard Wong started to suffer from dementia in 2015. His children hired Siti to care for him at his home in Shek On House in Kwai Chung.

When they visited their father, they noticed red marks and bruises around his nose.

They checked closed-circuit television installed at the father’s home and saw the helper’s attack captured on camera.
