Hong Kong snooker star Marco Fu Ka-chun has filed a legal action against his former agents after they took over his Facebook fan page despite ending his contract with them.

Passion Marketing Company, its director Chan Yan-nang and Li Wai-nga, both administrators of the page, had changed Fu and his wife’s statuses from “editor” to “moderator” of the page last July, according to the court filing.

Moderators have no power to manage access to the page or create, edit or delete posts.

Fu, a six-time Asian Games medallist currently ranked 56th in the world, ended his contract with the company on June 4 last year. However, Chan and Li continued to control the Facebook page, post on the page and use its messaging function, as well as directing enquiries for Fu to Passion Marketing Company.

According to documents filed at the District Court on Friday, Fu’s lawyers sent four letters demanding the company return the rights to manage the page, but the company refused to make Fu an administrator and remove Chan and Li from the page, which has more than 31,000 followers. The most recent post on the page was made on July 25 last year.

Fu argued the contents of the page were likely to lead people to believe he still endorsed it, and that Passion Marketing Company was still his agent. He demanded the company declare it was no longer his agent and return the sole rights to use and access his Facebook page.

He also applied for an injunction to restrain the company, Chan or Li from continuing to use the page or any name containing the words “Marco Fu”, passing off services under his name, attributing posts and any communication to him, or letting anyone else do so.

Away from his legal wrangles, the 42-year-old has struggled with his eyesight in recent years. In January 2018, he revealed he had undergone eye surgery for retinal degeneration, but he admitted in February last year the problem was not getting better.
