A Hong Kong government employee was arrested after attacking his male colleague with a knife in their Kowloon Bay office during his last working day on Monday.

The incident happened at the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department’s headquarters on Kai Shing Street in Kowloon Bay soon after 2pm. A female colleague of the victim also suffered minor injuries as she was pushed to the floor while trying to stop the attacker.

The 31-year-old suspect, a temporary clerk, stopped the assault before police arrived.

Officers arrested him at the scene, while the two injured – a 30-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman who tried to stop the attack – were taken conscious to United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong for treatment.

A police source said the man suffered knife wounds to his head, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

The Post has learned that the suspect has been suffering from psychosis for several years. He was fired recently and reported on duty on Monday as his last day in the office.

Another source said the suspect and the victim always had disagreements at the workplace, and the suspect felt the victim had caused him to lose his job.

The attack happened when the suspect spotted his colleague in the office soon after 2pm.
