China basketball star fears blindness after potentially ‘career-ending’ eye injury
Guo Ailun needs 40 stitches after incident with Guangzhou Loong Lions teammate during routine drill

Chinese basketball star Guo Ailun hit out at an unnamed teammate on Tuesday after an incident during training left him with an eye injury so severe it could end his sporting career and even lead to blindness.
The 31-year-old accused the colleague of potentially ruining his life after he was poked in the eye during a drill and required 40 stitches.
Guo, who plays for the Guangzhou Loong Lions, suffered a ruptured conjunctiva: a thin, clear membrane that protects the eye.
In a Weibo post, he questioned the “strange move”, which he said was unrelated to basketball.
“I don’t know if I will go blind. If I go blind, I won’t be able to live. Maybe I will never play basketball again,” Guo wrote. “This time, I don’t know if I will be able to come back.”

In the social media post, Guo added that he was “desperately angry” his life had been ruined because of a “single, inexplicable gesture”.
