Recap by phillip woo

Early favourite Easy Touch pulled out at the 320m following a box-seat run and took control 200m out for a second win at this level this term. He didn't beat much and will have to lift on his past Class Three form when next stepping out but this outing shows he doesn't have to lead outright to run a big race. Richcity Fortune kept on a clear-cut second after enjoying an uncontested lead. He's nothing special and couldn't have gotten an easier time up front. Young Empire improved 700m out after going back from a wide gate and kept up a good gallop to fill a placing. He's showing life signs in recent runs and may be bottoming out soon. Sakura Fighter made a steady bid near the inside following a rails run in midfield to grab fourth ahead of another debutant Such A Happiness who finished nicely down the outside after settling at the rear of the field. Both will gain valuable experience from this run and prefer longer trips in time. Clever Spirit ran on late after missing the kick. He had excuses but isn't genuine. Fancied late to jump favourite Sharpmind found nothing following a prominent run in his maiden start. He had trialled well but raceday is a totally different scenario.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (462)-GUIA HILL HANDICAP (Sec2) - Class 4 - 1200Metres

Whilst in the saddling stalls, THE CHAMP had its left front plate refitted.

THE CHAMP was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

As the start was effected, CLEVER SPIRIT lifted its front feet off the ground, began awkwardly and consequently lost ground.

RICHCITY FORTUNE shifted in on jumping and bumped RED SUN.

SAKURA FIGHTER and THE CHAMP bumped at the start.

From the outside barriers, YOUNG EMPIRE and SUCH A HAPPINESS were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Passing the 1100 Metres, SUCH A HAPPINESS got its head up when racing tight between CLEVER SPIRIT and YOUNG EMPIRE.

Also passing the 1100 Metres, SAKURA FIGHTER commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHARPMIND.

Then near the 1050 Metres, SAKURA FIGHTER shifted out away from the heels of SHARPMIND and bumped THE CHAMP, causing that horse to become unbalanced.

After this, SAKURA FIGHTER continued to prove difficult to settle.

Passing the 400 Metres, SHARPMIND shifted out and bumped THE CHAMP.

Throughout the race, GREENERY FORTUNE travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SHARPMIND which was having its first race start today, Z Purton stated that his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages, however, came under pressure rounding the Home Turn and after obtaining clear running near the 400 Metres did not quicken and failed to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of SHARPMIND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned, K C Leung stated that rounding the Home Turn he shifted SUCH A HAPPINESS to the outside of runners to ensure that the horse obtained clear running.

He said passing the 300 Metres he changed his whip into his right hand and when he went to use the whip passing the 250 Metres, SUCH A HAPPINESS shifted out and for this reason he put the whip away and straightened the horse whilst continuing to ride it hard hands and heels.

He said once he balanced SUCH A HAPPINESS up, he used the whip on the horse passing the 100 Metres and SUCH A HAPPINESS finished off the race strongly.

SHARPMIND, EASY TOUCH and RICHCITY FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
