Recap by phillip woo

In a blanket finish, late-punted Happy Rocky zipped home late from near the back to grab victory on the wire for a sixth career success for the eight-year-old. He had been knocking on the door all season long and rider Zac Purton can do no wrong. Salto Olimpico kept on very well despite getting heavy pressure for the lead by Good Days 500m out. He relished a return to the Valley 1,800m. Tai Smart made it close on the wire after shifting out at the 100m following a one-off run in midfield. He's placed in three of his past four starts and will be saluting shortly. Le Panache did have every chance in the box-seat and may be better ridden held up for a run. King's Man was in the mix following a oneout, one-back run. He's been racing consistently without saluting. Plunged late, Good Days wasn't beaten far in the end after rushing forward three deep from midfield at the 850 to vie for the lead. It wasn't a bad run and a bottom might not be far away.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (453) - WAI YIP HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800Meters

REEVE'S MUNTJAC shifted out at the start and bumped KING OF MONGOLIA.

From wide barriers, HAPPY ROCKY and SANGRIA were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

Near the 150 Metres, when struck with the whip, TAI SMART (C Y Ho) shifted out abruptly.

TAI SMART then continued to hang out and over the concluding stages again shifted out, resulting in SANGRIA being checked away from the heels of TAI SMART passing the winning post.

C Y Ho was severely reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount rather than continuing to allow it to shift out under pressure.

When questioned, K Teetan stated that he was asked to shift GOOD DAYS across behind runners and obtain cover in the early stages from the wide barrier.

He said he was also asked if the pace of the race steadied in the middle stages to attempt to improve his position as GOOD DAYS is one-paced and would not be suited by being held up and left flat-footed when the pace of the race quickened.

He said in the early stages he was left racing wide as he was unable to obtain a position with cover.

He said after the 1300 Metres he allowed GOOD DAYS to improve forward of REEVE'S MUNTJAC to race in about midfield but without cover.

He said whilst the pace of the race was fair in the middle stages, he rode his mount along after the 900 Metres to improve to obtain a more forward position closer to the rail.

He said when he did this KING OF MONGOLIA was ridden to maintain its position to the outside of SALTO OLIMPICO and inside GOOD DAYS which required him having to ride GOOD DAYS along for further than he had hoped in order to clear that horse to race outside the leader SALTO OLIMPICO after the 600 Metres.

A veterinary inspection of SANGRIA and REEVE'S MUNTJAC immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

LE PANACHE, HAPPY ROCKY and SALTO OLIMPICO were sent for sampling.
