Racing Incident Report
Race Three : (649) - D'AGUILAR HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Meters
Horse No 1 BEAU GOSSE (G389) H Bowman Shortly after the start was bumped.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, H Bowman stated that from a wide barrier he elected to take up a forward position as instructed.
He said when unable to cross runners to his inside BEAU GOSSE was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
He added that when placed under pressure from the 400 Metres BEAU GOSSE did not respond to his riding and gave ground in the Home Straight.
Trainer D J Whyte advised that BEAU GOSSE had pleased him coming into tonight's event but was of the opinion the wide run that the horse had endured was the reason for its disappointing performance.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 3 CHARMING STEED (E494) C Y Ho Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 SPEEDSTAR (G181) A Badel After travelling a short distance was buffeted for room between BEAU GOSSE and HANG'S CHOICE which shifted out and away from PRECISION GOAL.
Horse No 6 FORTUNE PRESIDENT (G054) M Chadwick Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost ground.
The barrier manners of FORTUNE PRESIDENT were considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE PRESIDENT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
Horse No 7 SMART BEAUTY (G477) Z Purton From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After the 300 Metres was briefly held up behind MEDIC ELITE when being shifted to that runner's outside to improve.
Horse No 8 ASIAN ONE (E400) B Avdulla Shortly after the start was tightened for room between HANG'S CHOICE and PRECISION GOAL which shifted out before being corrected by its rider.
After the race, B Avdulla reported that his mount was under pressure from the 800 Metres and failed to finish the race off.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 10 CASA LEGEND (G126) A Atzeni Jumped only fairly.
After the race, A Atzeni reported that from an inside barrier he was requested to take up a forward position.
Trainer C W Chang confirmed the instructions and advised he issued such instructions to take advantage of tonight's racing pattern which, in his opinion, had favoured on-pace runners.
Horse No 11 PRECISION GOAL (H016) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.

Precision Goal took control 60m out after a pace-stalking role from gate five for a first win at his 18th start. He was able to back up a front-running third last start over the Valley 1,800m. Charming Steed got going late to just snatch second from Casa Legend after a one-off trip from better than midfield. It was his best effort from five starts over the Valley 1,650m. Casa Legend just missed a quinella spot after getting all the favours in the box seat. It was a return to form from an ideal draw trying the Valley 1,650m for the first time. Punted late, Viva A La gradually faded to finish fourth after setting swift fractions in front from gate one. He rarely produces a bad run. Smart Beauty dashed late to just edge Medic Elite for fifth after a patient ride sitting third last from gate 10. It was another honest effort. Medic Elite was doing his best work late after biding his time three from the rear. Speedstar ran on without threatening from near the rear. Fortune President came from a distant last after a very slow start to finish next best. Favourite Beau Gosse had an excuse after chasing the speed wide without cover.
