Drogba quick off the mark at Galatasaray
Didier Drogba came off the bench to score on his Galatasaray debut as his new Turkish side defeated bottom-club Akhisar 2-1. The former Chelsea star came on in the 63rd minute before heading in his team's opener just five minutes later. Ivory Coast striker Drogba, 34, signed an 18-month contract with top-flight Galatasaray at the end of January after ending his Shanghai Shenhua contract. He is being paid 10 million euros (HK$103 million) to play in Turkey with a bonus of 15,000 euros for every match played. Galatasaray are due to play German side Schalke 04 on Wednesday in the last 16 of the Champions League. AFP
 
Neill returns home to join Del Piero at Sydney
Former West Ham captain and current Australia skipper Lucas Neill will join Alessandro Del Piero at Sydney FC for the remainder of the A-League season. Neill, who was released by United Arab Emirates club Al Wasl earlier this month, said in a statement he is "excited to be coming back to Australia to play club football in front of friends and family". Neill, 35 next month, begins training with Sydney today and will be available next weekend against Melbourne Heart. "I worked with [new coach] Frank [Farina] for many years in the Socceroos ... it's great to have the chance to enjoy further success together at Sydney FC," Neill said. AP
 
Heynckes hails Bayern ahead of Arsenal clash
Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes praised his side's resolute performance as they warmed up for Tuesday's trip to Arsenal by extending their Bundesliga unbeaten run to 18 matches with a 2-0 win at Wolfsburg through Mario Mandzukic and Arjen Robben. "It was Wolfsburg's best game of the season, their players threw everything they had into it," said Heynckes, whose team are set to end their three-year wait for silverware in May. "It was a very intense game played at a high pace and it was a tough one for us, but these are the games you have to win. Once again, we've shown we have real class in the team." AFP
