General Electric is one of the largest US companies in the world. It operates in four areas: energy, technology infrastructure, finance and consumer and industrial. In 1896, GE was one of the original 12 companies listed on the newly formed Dow Jones Industrial Average, and it remains the only original company still listed on the Dow although it has not been on the benchmark index continuously.
