The indoor playground is a unique place where you can zip around on hoverboards.

While not quite as sophisticated as the flying hoverboards in the 1980s film Back to the Future, smart self-balancing scooters are still a lot of fun.

Azzita Hoverland in Kwun Tong offers an indoor track, skilled staff and a safe environment to get you hoverboarding in no time. The hoverboard playground claims it is the only one in Hong Kong which offers professional coaching.

The venue is on the third floor of Yip Fat Building, a 10-minute walk from Kwun Tong MTR station. Upbeat music, LED and disco lights, and couches surround the 5,000-square-foot area lined with red and white road barriers which form the track. Framed photos line the wall behind the couches, which provide an Insta-aesthetic setting for taking photos with your crew.

Before you begin, it is compulsory to put on a helmet and knee and elbow pads, which are provided by the centre. If it’s your first time hopping on a hoverboard, the coach will give you a beginner lesson on the basics, including how to control and balance the device.

Our coach guided us around the track the first time and taught us how to turn the board by shifting our weight. We quickly got the hang of it and were zooming around all on our own soon enough.

Azzita Hoverland offers a range of other activities as well, such as karaoke, air hockey, and board games. Although they are not the venue’s main attraction, they can be a nice break from track-racing.

The coaches are friendly and helpful. We liked that they didn’t bother us after they saw our capabilities, but they also responded quickly if we needed help.

If you’re going hoverboarding solo then it may get boring. While the staff move the barriers around to create new tracks, and the slopes are pretty fun, too, the space is quite limited, so after a few rounds you may find it gets a little repetitive.

Overall, it’s a great place to bring a small group of friends during the weekend or to celebrate a birthday.

It’s also suitable for all ages and there is certainly something for everyone, though we strongly recommend you going straight for a hoverboard.
