Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy bring brilliant chemistry to Victor Frankenstein [Review]
What better way to feel festive than … a monster movie?
Victor Frankenstein won't give you warm, winter movie fuzzies, but it's still a gripping flick with some phenomenal performances.
Daniel Radcliffe is hunchback circus act Igor, who is rescued by mad genius Victor Frankenstein (James McAvoy). After Igor is cleaned up and straightened out (literally), the duo set to work on a far-fetched resurrection experiment. And we all know what that leads to …
Plot-wise, Victor Frankenstein doesn't really add anything new to the familiar story, but that doesn't make the film any less enjoyable. While McAvoy's Victor is everything a mad scientist should be - a charismatic tornado of manic genius - Radcliffe comes into his own with innocence and determination. Together, the two share incredible on-screen chemistry.
The one dud note is the inclusion of romance. Because the duo's relationship is the focus, Igor's love interest Lorelei (Jessica Brown Findlay) is distracting and unnecessary, but slight enough not to impact the plot.
So before spirit of Christmas takes over, hold on to Halloween for a bit longer and revel in one last monster movie of the year.
