It all kicks off when Jack (Nicholas Hoult) mistakenly opens a gateway between our world and that of the wild giants via some magical beans bought from the market. Things take a turn for the worse when Princess Isabelle (Eleanor Tomlinson), Jack's love interest, disappears into the mysterious giant land in the sky, and the giants decide they want to reclaim human territory.
The film combines beautiful countryside, challenging landscapes and historical buildings, with the mighty beanstalk, a vertical highway between worlds, to create a stunning visual treat.
Hoult perfectly conveys Jack's strong and heroic innocent characteristics, while Tomlinson is a brave yet disobedient princess.
Director Bryan Singer has created an atmospheric, fanciful and well-organised action film.
Jack the Giant Slayer is a traditional story with a fresh, modern spin.
