The film starts with a flashback to Josh Lambert's (Patrick Wilson; Garrett Ryan plays young Josh) supernatural experience as a boy in his grandmother's house. Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye; young Elise, Lindsay Seim), a medium, helps Josh to forget the experience, which exposed his paranormal ability.
Twenty-five years later, Josh's son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) is in a coma - it turns out he possesses the same powers as his father, and is now lost in the spiritual world. It's up to Josh to save him, so the family moves back to his grandmother's house to unlock the childhood secret that connects them to the supernatural world.
The film may scare people, but the plot disappoints: many of the developments are totally unlikely. It's tempting to compare this to Wan's The Conjuring, released earlier this year, which proceeds in far smoother way and gives a more intensive and horrifying experience.
Wan needs another new tale.
