Twitter is abuzz today as news that Korean American actor Daniel Dae Kim will be stepping into a role that recently made headlines around the world. Last month, British actor Ed Skrein backed out of playing Major Ben Daimio in the Hellboy reboot, because the character is Asian; Skrein is white.

This is not the first time Kim's name has come up in discussions of race in Hollywood. Earlier this year, he and fellow Korean American co-star Grace Park left the popular TV show Hawaii Five-O over a pay dispute: there were reports that they were being paid 10 to 15 per cent less than their white co-stars.
