Disney have said on Twitter that Frozen 2 is going to happen
Disney Animation has announced that a follow-up to the mega-hit Frozen is in the works.
"Forecast: Winter weather ahead! Disney Animation developing # Frozen2," the studio said on Twitter last Thursday. Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee will be back for the second film.
"At last, I can say - FROZEN 2!!!! I'm beyond excited to create alongside my Frozen family!" Lee tweeted, along with a photo of Queen Elsa and her sister Anna.
Frozen is Disney's top box-office hit. And it's the fifth top-grossing film of all time, according to industry tracker Box Office Mojo.
It won two Oscars last year for best animated feature and best original song for Let It Go.
Frozen made nearly US$1.3 billion just from global ticket sales. And it made Disney even more money from merchandise and soundtrack sales across the world.
The plot of Frozen is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen.
The film tells the story of Princess Anna, who sets off on a journey to find her sister Elsa. Elsa's hard-to-control icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in constant winter.
Frozen 2 quickly became one of the top trending topics on Twitter.
Actress Kristen Bell, who voices Anna, tweeted a photo of herself smiling and sleeping on a bag of ice cubes, with the message: "Dreams really do come 2!!! #FROZEN2."
