To call Taylor Swift a country singer no longer does her justice: her newest album is full-on pop. On American TV show Good Morning America, the 24-year-old described 1989 in as almost a "musical rebirth, in that it's my first pop album". And the signs so far suggest that pop may work out just fine for the star. Single Shake It Off, released in August, is still sitting comfortably at the top of the iTunes chart.

1989 is Swift's fifth album since she debuted with Taylor Swift when she was 16. She's involved in writing all her songs, which often reflect her personal life. And with nearly 100 songs, she's bound to have one to suit your mood, whatever you're feeling. Here are the Tay tracks we play as the soundtrack to key life moments.

Our Song (Taylor Swift, 2006)

For when you're feeling the thrill of a new relationship and you just want to spend every minute with each other. Even the simplest things, when you do them together, become an exciting adventure.

The Best Day (Fearless, 2008)

While most of Swift's songs are about relationships (and the ends thereof), this is a heartwarming number about family. Ever spent a day doing practically nothing with your family, then realised, as you went to bed, that it was one of the best days you've had in a long time, because you could just be yourself? Yeah, that.

Back to December (Speak Now, 2010)

Regrets, regrets. It's hard when someone tells you how they feel about you, but you think they're totally uncool, and reject them right away. When, years later, you realise you made a mistake, but they're already over you, then what? Time travel would be handy.

22 (Red, 2012)

Sometimes you feel sick of sticking to the rules. You're never going to be as young as you are tonight, so let loose, be silly, and just enjoy being young.

Shake It Off (1989, 2014)

Life can get out of hand, especially as there are always other people involved. There will always be people who don't support you, and worse, people who pretend to be your friends, but couldn't care less. But why let them bug you? Let them go, and remind yourself of what you're worth.
