School life gets a little supernatural in the new anime Kyoukai no Rinne.

The romcom follows the adventures of Sakura Mamiya, a high school student who has been able to see ghosts ever since she was "spirited away" as a small child. Now, after years of being plagued by spirits, she pretends not to see them - but every now and again she slips up.

When Sakura starts high school she meets a shinigami, a spirit similar to the Grim Reaper. He turns out to be her classmate Rinne Rokudo, an orphan who can become invisible when he puts on a special underworld robe.

Rinne is saddled with a lot of afterlife debt because of his grandmother, who was also a shinigami. She fell in love with a dying human, and bargained with the powers that be to let him live so they could be married, promising to take on a much greater spirit-reaping quota. But she failed to meet that target, and now Rinne has to take over her debt.

To make ends meet, poor Rinne has to live off the meagre offerings of his fellow classmates, who think he is a spirit that can fix their "supernatural" woes.

But each job gets more and more complicated and dangerous, and Sakura can't help but get swept along with Rinne's tide of craziness.

The show is based on the popular manga of the same name, and is the latest work Rumiko Takahashi, whose previous works include Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha.

This is a fun show that Inuyasha fans simply must not miss.
