Selena Gomez has returned to social media following a three-month hiatus.
The singer and actress, 26, reflected on the obstacles she overcame last year in a touching Instagram post on Monday, which was accompanied by three black-and-white photos of herself.
“It’s been awhile [sic] since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support,” she began. “Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth.”
The Disney alum stepped away from social media in late September, announcing on Instagram that she planned to “live my life present to the moment I have been given”.
E! News and NBC report she entered a treatment facility to focus on improving her mental health following several health scares.
Selena Gomez may be on to something - study shows limiting social media use can reduce depression
Gomez has been open about her battle with depression after undergoing a kidney transplant donated by Grown-ish actress Francia Raisa in 2017 to treat complications from her lupus diagnosis.
Last year, Raisa told health magazine Self that they both experienced a difficult recovery from the surgery: “Selena and I both went through a depression. … She had some complications with hers, and she has bigger scars than I do that [weren’t] expected.”
In December, Gomez appeared happy and healthy while spending quality time with friends in the snow in one of her first public outings in a few months.
Yesterday, she posted two more photos, sharing one of the projects she's been working on.
Welcome back, Selena. And thanks for the reminder that taking care of ourselves is important.
