Hong Kong students take home gold in the 3rd International Olympiad of Metropolises
The Hong Kong team sent to Russia, (from left to right) Alvin Tse Cheuk-hin, Wong Chi-fung, Prudence Mok Kwan-lam, Cheng Yan-yau, Gaurav Arya, Chau Chun-wang, Wai Ka-hei and Choi Chun-ming.A team of eight Hong Kong students achieved outstanding results in the 3rd International Olympiad of Metropolises (IOM) held in Moscow, Russia from September 2 to 7.
The Hong Kong team won three gold medals, five silver medals, as well as a gold award in the team competition. The IOM is an annual youth science tournament organised by The Moscow City Government, where students aged 14-18 compete in events based on the four disciplines of physics, mathematics, chemistry, and informatics.
King George V School’s Gaurav Ary and St Margaret’s Co-educational English Secondary and Primary School’s Chau Chun-wang each won a gold medal in the physics competition.
Combining science and imagination to cook up sustainable solutions for our planet
Cheng Yan-yau from Discovery College won a gold medal in the mathematics contest, while Alvin Tse from Yew Chung International School – Secondary brought home a silver medal.
Two students from La Salle College, Wong Chi-fung and Prudence Mok, were each awarded a silver medal in the chemistry contest.
Pui Ching Middle School’s Wai Ka-hei and Sing Yin Secondary School’s Choi Chun-ming each secured a silver medal in the informatics competition.
Members of the Hong Kong team were fully funded by the Education Bureau (EDB) to take part in the international contest. 260 students from 26 countries, including Indonesia, Istanbul, and Serbia, participated in the event.
