St Clare’s Girls’ School raised the most money this year in the Fun4Funds (F4F) Competition for Operation Santa Claus, with Shung Tak Catholic English College grabbing the Best Santa Champion award.

Operation Santa Claus is an annual charity campaign co-organised by South China Morning Post and Radio Television Hong Kong.

St Clare’s, which raised more than HK$37,000 for the competition, said they mainly did it through running food and DIY booths at school fairs.

Tammy Tam, the staff adviser to St Clare’s fundraising efforts, said that although the team only consisted of 16 people, it was really a school-wide effort, as the team worked closely with all houses, as well as the Parent-Teacher Association. She added that St Clare’s raised more money this year than last.

The Fun4Funds Competition also has a Best Santa Champion award which recognises schools not only for how much they’ve raised, but how creative their fundraising idea is. Shung Tak Catholic English College was this year’s recipient; this is the 23rd year they have taken part in Operation Santa Claus.

Sonia Yiu, the Shung Tak team adviser who has been involved with OSC since it started at the school, said that the Best Santa Champion award encourages more fundraising and motivates schools to take part.

She also praised the new F4F mentorship. “Despite our relative amount of experience in fundraising for OSC, we thought that the fundraising mentor who was assigned to us was very useful; some of the ideas were actually adopted by the team.”

The school held three different fundraising events: a miniature fun fair, a singing contest, and a dress casual day.

The final amount raised will be announced at the OSC closing ceremony tonight.
