Ko Ho-long from St Joseph's Anglo Chinese School broke the A-grade boys long jump record.As the second day of the Inter-School Athletics Competition wraps up, Diocesan Girls’ School takes the lead in the girls’ overall rankings with 200 points, followed by Good Hope School and Heep Yunn School with 192 and 151 points respectively.
Diocesan Boys’ School ranked first in the boys’ overall with 208 points. La Salle came second with 179 points, followed by Hoi Ping Chamber of Commerce Secondary School with 112 points.
The second day saw several new records being made. Ko Ho-long, 18, from St Joseph’s Anglo-Chinese School, claimed a gold medal with a record-breaking leap of 7.36 metres in the A-grade boys’ long jump.
Ho-long said he was nervous during the first few jumps, but later calmed down and found the right rhythm to make his best jump.
In the A-grade girls’ shot put final, Cheung Yuet-ting from YCH Law Chan Chor Si College won gold with a record-breaking throw of 10.49 metres. The 17-year-old said she didn’t do well in the first few shots. “After my team members encouraged me and told me not to think too much, I maintained focus and finally made my best throw,” said Cheung.
Chan Pui-kei, 17, from Good Hope School, broke the A-grade girls’ 200m record during the heats with a time of 25.18 seconds.
Pui-kei said she spent her days prior to the final strategising for the race. She thought about the best moments to accelerate during the final.
Yu Chun Keung Memorial College’s Herry Wong Cheuk-hei, 18, set a new record in the A-grade boys’ 200m semi-finals by clocking an impressive 21.91 seconds.
