This week’s question: What do you hate that everyone else loves?

To take part, drop us a line via this form or email us at [email protected] by 11.59pm on November 14. Tell us your name, age and school.

Max Kwok king-hang, 12, Hong Kong Tang King Po College: I like hugging my parents, particularly my father. There’s something magical about the hug – when I wrap my arms around him, he seems to melt, softening his attitude and giving me more freedom. Similarly, when I hug my mother, she smiles even if she is angry. Sometimes, she will give me delicious food, too. It’s a habit I hope to keep, as it serves as a beautiful gesture to express the depth of my love for them.

Christine Chau Hoi-ching, 15, Yuen Long Public Secondary School: As a kid, I was extremely observant. Every time I went out I would gaze in awe at the beautiful baby-blue sky and admire the freshly cut grass. As a secondary student I’m often bombarded with work and don’t get the opportunity to appreciate the small details of life. However, whenever I go out I still observe the world in amazement like I did as a kid and I hope I will still do the same as I grow older.

The habits we picked up from our parents

Tac Cheng Cheung-fung, 17, Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School: Being open to making new friends. I will never forget those happy childhood memories when I played freeze tag with random people in the playground. It is simple yet fun when you get to meet someone new every day. It only takes five minutes to go from knowing their names to being best buddies. Unfortunately, as you grow older, you realise that the trust of your peers takes years to build, seconds to break and forever to repair. This restraint keeps me away from many potential friends and huge crowds. I hope I can be more open, like my younger self, and widen my social circle.

Jasmine Lee, 16, The Methodist Church Hong Kong Wesley College: The childish habit I hope to keep is talking to my toys. Sometimes, when I am anxious or depressed, it feels like they are the only “people” I can share my feelings with. I hope to keep this habit even after I grow up since it makes me feel safe.

Abby Lun Tsz-yu, 15, Ma On Shan Tsung Tsing Secondary School: I always enjoyed collecting used toilet rolls as a child. I would use colourful markers to draw faces on the white surface of the roll. Then, I’d assign characters to these rolls and role-play with them. Although it seems childish now, I think this habit made me a more creative person. It’s both fun and environmentally friendly.

Vicki Weng Xinhan, 14, Pope Paul VI College: The childish habit that I want to keep is to keep asking lots of questions about the things around me, because although I will learn lots of knowledge when I am growing up, I hope that I will still have an innocent heart and always be curious about the world.

Childhood films and shows that have been totally ruined

Ng Yeuk-tsin, 12, Immaculate Heart of Mary College: I hope to keep going to sleep at 10pm every night. Sleeping early can help me have a refreshing day in the morning. Whenever I have sufficient sleep, I have a clear mind for studies, so I can pay attention in class without feeling fatigued, and I can then study well despite having a busy schedule. To sleep early is also to have a calm and balanced mind that allows a cheerful mood throughout the day. I think that will be of utmost importance when I start working.

Muhammad Owais Atahar Khan, 11, German Swiss International School: I hope to keep my curiosity about everything, even when I grow older. The reason I want to keep my curiosity is because I don’t want to be indifferent to everything when I have grown up. Also, I want to be discovering more interesting things and getting unexpected surprises through new discoveries.

Priscilla Leong Pui-sze, 13, Shun Tak Fraternal Association Leung Kau Kui College: Exercise regularly. It has literally changed my life. I have been playing tennis since I was a kid. At first, I didn’t know the benefits, but after a few years, I noticed that my body has changed a lot. Regular exercise has greatly improved my physical fitness. I no longer huff and puff after workouts. Additionally, I look healthier and I can sleep well every day. Right now, I am also learning handball. I hope I can keep this habit forever to keep myself healthy and happy!

Ayaan Faisal, 14, Ho Yu College and Primary School (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen): A childish habit that I hope to keep even as I grow older would be always doing what I want to do, since when we grow older we will take on some responsibilities for things that we don’t always want to do.
