I have vowed never to complain about tiredness - complaining only spreads negativity, and who needs more negativity in school?

Sharon Cheng, 16, King George V School

To get through the school year without an all-nighter. For real. School can be enough work but catching up on your TV shows... you have to use that 3am time.

Anushka Purohit, 15, Renaissance College Hong Kong

My new school year resolution is to exercise every day. I'm doing the DSE this year, so I'm going to be eating so many snacks while I revise just to stay awake. Exercise is going to be crucial!

Kristie Wong, 17, South Tuen Mun Government Secondary School

I always rush out the door in a frenzy because I'm late, then feel embarrassed apologising to my friends for being late. Again. I really struggle to be on time, so I guess breaking this pattern is the first thing on my to-do list this new school year.

Katniss Tsang Wing-yu, 15, Carmel Secondary School

I want to try to go to bed by 9pm and wake up by 5am daily. Lots of the writers who I admire - including Haruki Murakami, Toni Morrison, Sylvia Plath, and even Benjamin Franklin - woke up before 6 in the morning. According to their biographies, this helped them produce a lot of their literary works. If I wake up earlier, hopefully I'll have more time to focus on my studies, exercise, meditate, talk to my family, and do lots of other great things. Wish me luck.

Catherine Wang, 16, Chinese International School

My academic resolution is to not only pursue my interests at a higher level, but to also develop new ones! My general life resolution is to simply not let university be the place "where fun goes to die".

May Huang, 18, University of Chicago

I am starting university this month and I'm feeling the butterflies already. My resolution is to maintain a balance between social life and studying, and make sure I spend my time with good people doing stuff that is worthwhile.

Lola Wong, 18, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Work hard, play hard. This classic motto is my new resolution for the school year. It is so important not just to focus on academics, but also maintain a passion for hobbies, social life, healthy eating and most importantly sleep! I will definitely try to make time for these things.

Belinda Ng, 15, South Island School

This new school year, my top resolution is not to fall asleep in class. Monotonous history teachers giving 30-minute speeches on the collapse of the Chinese dynasty work better than a lullaby. Got insomnia? Join my history class!

Nitika Chandiramani, 14, King George V School

My new school year resolution is to be nice to everyone, so that everyone likes me and doesn't call me mean names behind my back.

Ruby Leung, 18, City University
