Chinese folk dancing added to Other Learning Experiences credits starting in 2017
Students from kindergarten to secondary school will be able to dance all the way to the Chinese Folk Dance Graded Examinations

Starting next year, students from kindergarten to secondary school who learn Chinese folk dance will be able to take the Chinese Folk Dance Graded Examinations. They can learn from personal teachers or at dance schools.
The exams are set by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) on behalf of Chinese Folk Dance Grading HK Centre. Online applications will open via the HKEAA website in April, and the exams will be held in July and August.
By completing the exams, students can achieve their Grade 15 in dance from the HKEAA. Every grade consists of 10 dances, but exam candidates will only need to perform three to five pieces, dancing for 15 to 30 minutes. The exam fees range from HK$575 to HK$960.
Beijing Dance Academy’s Chinese Folk Dance founder Professor Pan Zhitao will be responsible for writing the teaching materials for the course, which will include more than 50 dances from different Chinese ethnic groups.
Mercy Mak, a member of the Chinese Folk Dance Grading HK Centre, told Young Post yesterday that the exams offer a welcome opportunity for young people to learn more about Chinese ethnic cultures.
