1. 連任 - re-election
After his stunning re-election victory, US President Barack Obama's first phone call went to Bill Clinton.

2. 婚外情 - extramarital affair
Central Intelligence Agency chief and ex-US commander in Iraq and Afghanistan, David Petraeus, resigned after the Federal Bureau of Investigation uncovered evidence that he had been involved in an extramarital affair.

3. 到尾者勝敗難分 - a neck-and-neck race
The president of the United States keeps his job - in a vote that wasn't even that close despite talk of a neck-and-neck race with Republican rival Mitt Romney.

4. 徹底的改革 - radical overhaul
Britain's BBC must undergo a radical overhaul in the wake of "shoddy" journalism, which led to the resignation of its chief, says Chris Patten, the head of the state-funded broadcaster's governing body.

5. 宣稱 - allegations
The BBC director general, George Entwistle, resigned on Saturday just two months into the job, after the corporation's flagship news programme aired mistaken allegations of child abuse against a former leading politician.
