You have probably heard these news terms being discussed in the papers or on TV. This is how to use them in English:

1. 反貪污 - anti-graft

Former anti-graft chief Timothy Tong Hin-ming is facing an investigation by his former subordinates as new evidence suggests he used public money to treat officials from Beijing's liaison office.

2. 茅台酒 - mao-tai

Tong, the former Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption, allegedly spent hundreds of thousands of dollars from the public purse on lavish banquets, mao-tai liquor and gifts for "business contacts".

3. 領土糾紛 - territorial dispute

Because of the dispute over the Diaoyu Islands - known as the Senkakus in Japan - in the East China Sea, Sino-Japanese ties have hit rock bottom.

4. 僵局 - deadlock

Stanley Ho Wai-hong, of the Union of Hong Kong Dockers said the union is willing to negotiate to break the deadlock over the dockland strike.

5. 帝國主義者 - imperialists

"If the American imperialists unjustifiably provoke us, we'll start a nuclear war," a North Korean soldier said.
