It was disappointment all around for Hong Kong in the Yasuda Kinen as Champions Mile quinella Maurice and Contentment were upstaged by longshot Logotype in Tokyo on Sunday.

Japanese superstar Maurice (Tommy Berry), who had won four Group Ones in a row tracing back to last year’s Yasuda Kinen, was sent off at long odds-on but was no match for Logotype (Hironobu Tanabe), who led on a sedate pace before kicking clear in the straight for a length and a half victory at triple-figure odds.

Maurice finished second, just ahead of two-time Hong Kong visitor Fiero (Hiroyuki Uchida).

Contentment, ridden by Brett Prebble for John Size, was under pressure on straightening and finished last, while Dubai Turf winner Real Steel also failed to flatter, finishing second last.

It was Tsuyoshi Tanaka-trained Logotype’s third Group One win, having taken the 2012 Asahi Hai Futurity over 1,600m as a two-year-old before snaring the 2013 Satsuki Sho (2,000m) at three.
