Danny Shum Chap-shing confirmed Romantic Warrior will head straight to December’s Group One Hong Kong Cup (2,000m) after the Cox Plate hero arrived back at Sha Tin on Tuesday morning.

Fresh from his historic win at Moonee Valley, Romantic Warrior began his two weeks in quarantine in the early hours of Tuesday morning, and Shum was quick to rule out a tilt at the Group Two Jockey Club Cup (2,000m) on November 19.

“Romantic Warrior is good. He came back at 3am this morning, and my assistant trainer [Ben So Tik-hung] said he’s very well,” Shum said. “His next race will definitely be in December, 100 per cent.”

The trainer left a possible run in November’s Group Two contest on the table during the weekend’s celebrations but, after catching his breath, now believes the race will come too soon.

“He won’t go to the Jockey Club Cup, because he will have only just got out [of quarantine], and the race is four days later,” Shum said.

Another superstar swerving the meeting on November 19 is Golden Sixty, and the eight-year-old impressed in his second barrier trial of the season at Sha Tin on Tuesday morning.

“He went well and was happy to be out there today,” said jockey Vincent Ho Chak-yiu, who is suspended from race riding until November 12. “He was sharp out of the gate, travelled very nicely, and in the last 200m I asked him to build up a little bit.

“In his first trial he was a bit fat, but today he was a lot better. He can be a bit lazy in the morning. You just need to make sure he works enough to go through the line and get his fitness up.”

Golden Sixty finished second in the 1,200m heat, which was won by Beauty Eternal. The trial also included this year’s Hong Kong Derby (2,000m) winner, Voyage Bubble, and his rider, Alexis Badel, was full of praise for the five-year-old.

“Voyage Bubble felt great. Action-wise, he was fine and he showed that he felt comfortable. I think the trial was as good as it could be – I was very pleased,” Badel said.

“The horse jumped well, showed good speed, moved well and showed that he was really happy to try and hit the line.”

Voyage Bubble will make his seasonal return in the Group Two Jockey Club Mile on November 19, where he is likely to meet California Spangle and Beauty Eternal, while Golden Sixty won’t be seen until the Group One Hong Kong Mile on international day.
